The distal convoluted tubule is the final segment of the nephron, and it is found in the renal cortex.

Part of this tubule is apposed to the glomerulus, and this region is known as the macula densa, and it forms part of the juxtaglomerular complex.

This tubule is involved in resorbing sodium ions, controlled by the hormone aldosterone.

Aldosterone is produced by the zona glomerulosa of the adrenal cortex.
