Cell division

photo of dividing cells

These cells have been stained for gamma tubulin (in red), which is found at the centrosome in interphase cells, and microtubules (in green). Most of these cells are in interphase. However, there is one cell that is just about to undergo cell division as it has two red spots - which have started to move apart to the ends of the cell, to form the spindle poles. This cell is also starting to round up. There is a second cell that is in the middle of cell division, the cell is rounded up, and a well developed spindle can be seen.
